The Next Generation of Organizing Community Leaders

Congratulations to our 2017-2018 Center for Neighborhood Leadership (CNL) Apprenticeship and Academy Introductory Course graduates! The 16 community leaders pictured above did amazing community organizing work over the past 10-months, spending time in trainings and working with our non-profit partner organizations on issues such as educational equity, ending the school-to-prison pipeline, immigration, housing and land use justice. This was CNL’s 9th program year, providing local community leaders with effective trainings and resources for grassroots organizing that help them achieve long-term, concrete changes in marginalized communities.

A special thank you to our guest speakers, Cathy Dang, from CAAAV Organizing Asian Communities and Afua Atta-Mensah, from Community Voices Heard. We would also like to thank everyone who supported the graduates, including their family and friends, past CNL graduates, our Board, and partners and supporters of CNL, including JP Morgan Chase, New York Foundation, New York Immigration Coalition, and Robert Sterling Clark Foundation. CNL would not be possible without you.

The paid Organizing Apprenticeship is a rigorous training and educational program; apprentices spend four days per week working at a host site, and one day per week in training. The Introductory Course offers new organizers, who are currently employed, the skills and support they need for a successful career.
