A coalition of four Bronx community organizations seeks a self-starting, passionate and well-organized individual to serve as the Coordinator for the activities of the Bronx Financial Empowerment Coalition as we work to establish the Bronx People’s Federal Credit Union as an expansion of the award-winning Lower East Side People’s Federal Credit Union. The Coordinator will be hired as an independent contractor (1099-MISC) at a rate of $30/hour and will work an average of 20 hours per week for a period up to 12-24 months. The position is based in the South and West Bronx and while approximately half of the work hours can take place remotely, the Coordinator also needs to be able to travel to various sites across the Bronx including Melrose, Longwood, Hunts Point, and West Burnside. We are looking for someone who is available to start immediately.

Roles/Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the staff of four Bronx community organizations and the credit union to manage the roll out of 3-5 mobile branch locations and ATMs, as well as the planning for at least one permanent branch location;
  • Facilitate and coordinate parking locations and availability for the mobile branch van at various sites with partner organizations;
  • Manage communication among partner organizations including scheduling meetings, creating, organizing and distributing materials (both digital and print), and managing documents and folders;
  • Support outreach and communication to other Bronx community organizations to become Select Partner Groups;
  • Coordinate regular outreach events with coalition organizations and LESPFCU, including managing outreach, flyering, setup, breakdown and other logistics for each event;
  • Coordinate trainings between the CDCU, outreach teams and community members;
  • Track data from outreach events, secure appropriate consents and help perform evaluation on effectiveness of outreach efforts to share back to the larger coalition;
  • Coordinate design and printing of promotional materials;
  • Support general coalition efforts and events.

Qualifications

  • Must be a proven entrepreneurial self-starter who can work independently while coordinating a team across multiple organizations
  • Fully bilingual (English and Spanish) including spoken and written
  • Experience and proficiency in print and social media communication and outreach
  • Experience and proficiency in Google Suite (e.g., Drive, Docs, Spreadsheets, Voice) and Zoom
  • Ability to design flyers and outreach materials, ideally in English and Spanish
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be familiar with the Bronx and committed to engaging with diverse constituents including street outreach to community residents, small businesses and organizations
  • Interest and willingness to learn about access to financial services in historically redlined communities
  • Willingness to communicate and partner with local elected officials and community boards
  • Must be fully vaccinated and comply with all safety regulations at each organization

We will provide training and equipment to bring the Coordinator quickly up to speed.

The Bronx Financial Empowerment Coalition includes Banana Kelly Community Improvement Association (BKCIA), University Neighborhood Housing Program (UNHP), We Stay/Nos Quedamos, and the Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation (WHEDco).
