ANHD/Morgan Stanley Community Development Graduate Fellowship applications are open NOW, through May 15. ANHD (Association for Neighborhood Housing Development) and Morgan Stanley seek graduate students and ANHD Member organizations to apply to what it describes as its highly successful community development leadership program’s 12th cohort year, running September 2023 – June 2024.

The ANHD/Morgan Stanley Community Development Graduate Fellowship program builds the capacity of community development organizations in NYC by cultivating and empowering emerging community development leaders.

Nine (9) graduate students will be selected and paired with a neighborhood-based ANHD-member community development organization. Working on a unique, affordable housing, economic development, or community planning project, the fellow will gain hands-on experience, skill-building, and build a network of support in the field.

According to Morgan Stanley and ANHD, the two entities partnered in 2012 to create what they describe as a high-quality community development fellowship that matches top-level master’s degree students with a local community development organization to carry out a specific project that the group could not otherwise accomplish.

Program Benefits for Fellows Include:

  • high-quality training and mentorship at some of NYC’s best community development organizations;
  • a $20,000 stipend for the ten-month (Sept. 1 – June 30), part-time (20 hours per week) fellowship;
  • the opportunity to meet with leaders in New York City’s government, planning, and community development fields;
  • access to our fellow & alumni programming and other ANHD trainings and workshops including mixers, career-building information sessions, and other opportunities to connect with what was described as this community of community development professionals; and
  • the possibility to receive academic credit, in accordance with the policies of the fellows’ respective academic programs.

Program Benefits for Host Organizations Include:

  • the opportunity to build and expand capacity at the organization for a clearly defined, substantive community development project;
  • support the learning and development of emerging community development professionals, fostering relationships to strengthen leadership in the community development field; and
  • ongoing support for fellows’ supervisors throughout the fellowship to ensure completion of the project and meaningful learning experiences.

Apply here. All Master’s degree students in urban planning, urban policy, public administration, or related fields are encouraged to apply. Applicants are required to have completed at least one semester by the start of the fellowship in September and be enrolled in their program through the end of the 2024 spring semester.

Apply to be a host here. All ANHD member organizations with a compelling community development project to be completed from September to June are encouraged to apply.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
