The IJC, a city-wide coalition of industrial policy advocates, service providers, and non-profit developers of industrial space that advocates to ensure New York City’s industrial sector continues to provide our neighborhoods with good-paying, working and middle class, industrial jobs commend Speaker Adams and Councilmembers Amanda Farias, Jennifer Guiterrez, Rafael Salamanca, and others for the passage of the Industrial Development Strategic Planning bill as a major reform that will ensure the City engages in proactive, thoughtful planning to protect and revitalize the industrial sector.
In our many and productive conversations with the Speaker’s Office and Councilmembers Farias, Guiterrez, and others in the Council’s M Zone coalition, we stressed the historic nature of this bill: namely, that it would encourage the City to approach the industrial sector in a proactive way so as to inform a real plan to better and more equitably utilize industrial land.
We believe the coordinated, comprehensive planning provided by this legislation will help sustain and revitalize New York City’s industrial sector for future generations of New Yorkers, secure our supply chains, ensure a just, clean transition, and ensure fair and equitable economic development for each and every New Yorker.
“We could not be more pleased with this final bill,” said Christopher Casey, Senior Campaign Organizer for ANHD. “From its provisions to regularly survey the industrial sector, to engaging the City’s Industrial Business Service Providers, to its required reports to guide the City’s industrial planning, this inspired new law we believe will pair well with reforms envisioned in the City of Yes Economic Opportunity Text Amendment. Our coalition thanks Speaker Adams and Councilmembers Farias and Guitterez for their leadership in passing this bill and look forward to working with local officials, the Council, and Mayor Adams on strengthening the Amendment in the months ahead to serve as a complement to this critical reform.”

ABOUT THE INDUSTRIAL JOBS COALITION
The Industrial Jobs Coalition is a citywide alliance of community groups, policy advocates, and service providers fighting to protect and preserve manufacturing as a sector in New York. We advocate for a zoning framework that allows manufacturers to stay in the city and ends speculation on industrial land, to ensure that the jobs being created in manufacturing areas are good jobs accessible to all New Yorkers.
