Overview

ConEd is offering incentives for the installation of energy-efficient equipment and technology so you can reduce overall energy use and maintenance costs while increasing operating efficiencies and improving tenant comfort. Efficient buildings also release fewer carbon emissions, providing a big boost toward New York State’s ambitious climate goals. Qualifying buildings can take advantage of financial incentives for approved equipment upgrades that can help make your property more energy-efficient and reduce your monthly bills. This is offered exclusively to buildings that were developed and are currently being maintained as affordable housing where supporting documentation can be provided.

Why This Matters

NYSERDA, in partnership with New York City utilities ConEd and National Grid, is offering incentives for the installation of energy-efficient equipment and technology as part of the new Affordable Multifamily Energy Efficiency Program (AMEEP) program so you can reduce overall energy use and maintenance costs while increasing operating efficiencies and improving tenant comfort.

Non-profit housing developers operate on very tight margins to build and preserve the deepest levels of affordable housing and offer social services for their residents. This often means little staff and financial capacity to take advantage of new and longer term opportunities for sustainability upgrades in their buildings.

A few applications filed for energy efficiency upgrades can save thousands of dollars (which supports the maintenance of affordable rents and social services), but without the staff and technical assistance to apply, these opportunities are missed. There is a strong need to support our non-profit developer members in accessing these opportunities so they can lower building operating costs, be on track to comply with NYC’s sustainability goals, and improve the lived conditions for some of New York City’s most marginalized populations.

What We're Doing

As part of ANHD larger effort to support affordable housing to be more sustainable and energy efficient, ANHD has launched a new project in partnership with ConEd, Kinetic Communities Consulting, and Wildan to support multi-family affordable housing developers in our network, and beyond, to navigate and access financial incentives for energy efficiency upgrades in multifamily buildings (5+ units). These incentives can be extensive, covering up to 85% of costs in some instances. The potential upgrades include a variety of gas, electricity, and building structure improvements like window and boiler replacements down to in-unit faucets, LEDs, appliances, etc.

We’re supporting organizations that operate multifamily affordable housing to understand whether this program could be a fit for buildings in their portfolio and provide technical support and assistance in navigating the process - from gathering necessary documentation to getting an application in through getting work set up and completed.

We have limited slots to support groups through this process, so any group that is interested should set up an initial building call to discuss as soon as they are interested in exploring these incentives. Email sachaly.dl@anhd.org to learn more.
