Local community groups and individuals working toward energy efficiency and climate justice face significant challenges, such as high upfront costs and navigating various incentives. These grassroots and smaller organizations need accessible training and support to advance their efforts effectively.
ANHD’s #OurNeighborhoodsOurPlan campaign aims to promote equity-oriented comprehensive planning in NYC, addressing environmental and climate justice. By setting goals that integrate land use, budgeting, and policy actions, the campaign seeks to correct historical environmental disparities and address future climate impacts. This inclusive planning process centers frontline communities in neighborhood development decisions, paving the way for cleaner, greener, and more sustainable neighborhoods.
ANHD’s policy work provides essential research and resources to support our members, partners, and allies, reinforcing our long-standing commitment to environmental and economic justice.
As extreme weather patterns become more frequent, low income people, BIPOC communities, elders, children, and immigrant New Yorkers at the frontlines of climate change are increasingly at risk of harm and damage inflicted by flooding and extreme heat. This further exacerbates the long-time environmental justice issues these same communities have faced for decades such as; poor air quality, limited green space, poor waste management, and more. Ongoing technical assistance, research, and advocacy support will ensure these communities are more resilient and are able to directly shape the development of their communities to promote safer and cleaner conditions while limiting displacement pressures
ANHD is supporting NYC’s transition to clean energy by providing technical assistance to non-profit affordable housing developers to access incentives for the installation of energy-efficient equipment and technology in multifamily buildings. ANHD is also the Outreach Manager for the Manhattan Clean Energy Hub helping connect New Yorkers on the frontlines of climate change to clean energy jobs, energy efficiency improvements in their homes, and rebates for businesses and personal transportation.
The NYSERDA Manhattan Clean Energy Hub is an initiative established to help Manhattan residents, tenants, nonprofits, small businesses, and affordable housing owners learn about and connect to the many opportunities, programs, and resources available as a result of New York’s transition to clean energy. ANHD was selected to be one of five steering committee members and is collaborating with Pratt Center, Kinetic Communities Consulting (KC3), USL Technology and Green City Force, with direction from longtime leader in the field, We ACT. We are working together to ensure a just transition to clean energy that all New Yorkers can participate in and benefit from.
Affordable Multifamily Energy Efficiency Program (AMEEP)
NYSERDA, in partnership with ConEd and National Grid, offers the Affordable Multifamily Energy Efficiency Program (AMEEP) to provide incentives for installing energy-efficient equipment in affordable housing. Non-profit housing developers, operating with tight margins and limited capacity, often miss these opportunities. ANHD, in collaboration with ConEd, Kinetic Communities Consulting, and Wildan, has launched a project to help these developers access financial incentives for energy upgrades, covering up to 85% of costs for improvements like window and boiler replacements and energy-efficient appliances. ANHD offers technical support to navigate the application process and implement these upgrades, with limited slots available. Interested groups should contact sachaly.dl@anhd.org for more information.
