ANHD Welcomes the 2021-2022 Cohort of the Center for Community Leadership
23 Individuals Will Help Build Community Power This Year
As we continue to build community power to challenge oppressive systems while navigating the grave losses and challenging conditions brought on by health and economic crises, we need spaces for organizers to gather, hone their skills and analysis, and feed their visions of what is possible. At ANHD, we are honored to welcome a new cohort of the Center for Community Leadership (CCL) Apprentices and Academy participants who have committed themselves to that work with us, their organizations, and each other.
Providing deep, multi-layered educational training and support to community organizers, CCL trains grassroots leaders and supports community organizations with the skills, resources, and networking opportunities needed to strengthen their potential to affect sustainable community change. Throughout the program, participants deepen their understanding of social conditions and oppression as context for organizing, explore different models of organizing historically and today, gain an understanding of how to engage communities in improving their own conditions, and develop skills for leading successful campaigns that win concrete changes for people and communities.
This year, the Organizing Apprenticeship is supporting the leadership development of five organizers who were previously members at their organizations. The Organizing Academy, a two-part educational and support program that provides an introductory and an advanced course for organizers already working in the field, welcomes 18 participants. This is a powerfully insightful and curious group, and they are excited to build relationships with each other, deepen their learning, and strengthen their collective hope and fortitude in this work.
