The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) is one of the most important laws we have to hold banks accountable to our communities to lend and serve equitably and to finance and support community development. The CRA only works if we participate!
This periodic training covers the basics of the CRA - what it is, how banks are evaluated, and how it can be a tool to support your local work to combat predatory equity and displacement, and to support affordable housing, economic development, and more.
As many know, the CRA is likely to undergo the biggest overhaul in 20 years, some of which threaten the very heart of the CRA. We are also facing threats to public disclosure laws that inform the CRA and our ability to evaluate banks’ records of fair lending. In that context, we'll discuss what works, what challenges remain, and ways you can participate to ensure that the CRA is preserved and strengthened - and not weakened!
Presented by: Jaime Weisberg, Senior Campaign Analyst, ANHD. Jaime is responsible for ANHD's bank reinvestment work, providing research and support to member organizations regarding bank mergers and the Community Reinvestment Act.
