New model for affordable housing!

Solar Training for the Association for Neighborhood and Housing Development Membership! This training will empower participants to capture the value of solar while meeting emerging regulations. Attendees will walk away with a strong grasp of the regulatory environment, options for financing and ownership of solar on new construction and existing buildings, and an understanding of predevelopment grant opportunities.  There also are some substantial new predevelopment incentives that may be of interest to ANHD members that we will review.

Affordable housing owners must consider solar electric systems to receive funding from NYC regulatory agencies in 2020 and beyond. By 2025, when NYSERDA solar incentives run out, NYC building code will require solar on any new roof of affordable housing.

Fortunately, solar can save affordable housing owners money now while providing economic benefits to tenants.

Panel Overview: The panel will include two main components, followed by a Q&A

  1. Regulatory overview: The presentation will begin with an overview of LL92 of 2019, which requires affordable housing property owners to include solar on their buildings under certain conditions. Implications for new development and Year 15 projects will be explained. The presenter will then review the new Enterprise Green Communities solar overlay for projects in New York City.
  2. Solar finance overview: optimizing value. The presentation will then focus on the benefits and drawbacks of different solar financing options for affordable housing, focusing on portfolio-wide retrofits. This will include a review of a creative no-cost community solar program, which provides benefits to housing owners, property entities and building residents. It is important that affordable housing property owners consider new models to finance solar for their portfolios, given that large solar tax incentives are not typically available to NON-PROFITS WHO retrofit THEIR BUILDINGS.
