Monday, NYC EDC announced that the number of outer borough private sector jobs has grown at more than double the rate of jobs in Manhattan since Mayor de Blasio has taken office. ANHD applauds the Administration's success in increasing jobs outside of Manhattan.

The New York Daily News recently reported that the City brokered a deal with a Brooklyn manufacturer to keep over 200 jobs in the City. ANHD commends the de Blasio Administration for its commitment to prioritizing industrial and manufacturing jobs for New York City.

A January 19th New York Times’ article– With Plan for Greenpoint Hospital, Neighbors May Finally Get Their Way– examines the long and difficult history of a major affordable housing development site in Williamsburg. The story behind this hulking, abandoned hospital site dates back to the early 1970s, when the neighborhood worked to turn the tide of abandonment and decay in their embattled community.

Last week, a Crain's story covered a little known special permit application for a 480,000-square-foot office building in the Greenpoint/Williamsburg Industrial Business Zone. This application at 25 Kent Avenue has much broader implications, and is the start of a new citywide zoning text amendment to create a new model of a mixed use industrial / commercial district.

An overflow crowd packed into Brooklyn Borough Hall today for the City Planning Commission's public hearing on the de Blasio Administration's proposal to rezone East New York/Cypress Hills. This is the first major rezoning of the de Blasio era, and the first concrete test of the comprehensive, neighborhood-based planning approach that this Administration has committed to taking.

Today's dramatic City Planning Commission hearing on the de Blasio zoning proposals leads us to the crucial next step in the land-use process when the City Council takes up its role to negotiate any final land use text before their vote early in early 2016. The two City proposed zoning programs - Mandatory Inclusionary Housing (MIH) and Zoning for Quality and Affordability (ZQA) - are centerpieces of the de Blasio housing agenda.

ANHD has been the leading organization calling for an MIH policy because housing advocates and community residents see MIH as an opportunity to put in place a new baseline where every neighborhood and site that is upzoned will include guaranteed affordable housing that truly meets the needs of the local community. But for many ANHD member-groups, the Administration's current MIH proposal misses the mark.
