Emily Goldstein (she/her) is ANHD's Director of Organizing and Advocacy. She oversees ANHD’s campaigns, working with staff, members and allies to win impactful policy reforms while building power across the community development movement. Emily is a lifelong New Yorker and has been organizing for almost 20 years, primarily around tenants’ rights, affordable housing, and land use issues.

Last night, hundreds of tenants, workers, business owners, and other local community members packed the Department of City Planning (DCP) scoping hearing for the Jerome Avenue Rezoning. Following a rally and march where community members chanted, “Fight, fight, fight, housing is a right” and “Who’s Bronx? Our Bronx,” members of the Bronx Coalition for a Community Vision streamed into the auditorium at Bronx Community College.

Tenant harassment is a growing crisis as more and more neighborhoods face a rising tide of speculative investment and active displacement pressure. Yesterday, tenants from around NYC took action at their buildings to highlight the need for stronger protections against harassment.

A landlords' attorney's advice at a Brooklyn real estate summit earlier this month made a small splash in the press. The information materials by attorney Michelle Maratto Itkowitz -- entitled Demolition Evictions: A Real Possibility and Tenant Buyouts for the Next Generation -- are almost refreshing for their candor.
